Through the years Conn has also made a few good intermediate and professional models. I would recommend a good used Conn over a brand new cheap-o brand for my own beginning students. For a "step-up" instrument, I would recommend a Bach, Yamaha, or Getzen trumpet, but these companies also make entry-level instruments.---Both King and Conn are made by the same company Selmer.
