I'm not at all sure anyone bought the serialization rights to them. The West German news magazine Stern published excerpts from the Hitler Diaries then tried to sell them to Newsweek and Times Newspapers who, before buying them, sponsored investigations to determine if they were authentic. Out of this came the discovery that they were forgeries.

How would you view someone who bought a newspaper simply to light a fire in an already warm house?

You don't know for sure if that person read the newspaper first or not especially, if they went out on their own and bought the paper. The could have gone to a restaurant and had a cup of coffee and read the newspaper. As far as a warm house, some individuals feel the cold more than others and this person obviously must feel cold enough to light a fire. If you are hinting at the fact there was something in that newspaper that this person didn't want to see then they wouldn't have brought the newspaper home with them and could have easily disposed of it at any garbage can on any street.
