The two non-Nintendo characters making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) and Solid Snake (Konami). Sonic most likely made an appearance because of the recent diversity between Nintendo and SEGA Video Games, and because of numerous requests to include him in the series. Solid Snake was requested by the creators of the series to be in Super Smash Bros.
