Tennessee
During the American Civil War, the secessionist states seceded from the Union at different times starting in December of 1860. Tennessee was the last Southern state to secede, doing so on June 8, 1861.
Tennessee was the last state to withdraw from the Union, after a statewide referendum on June 8, 1861. On July 24, 1866 Tennessee became the first Confederate state to be readmitted into the Union.
West Virginia
The Confederate states seceded from the Union and fired the first shots.
After the first seven states seceded, Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers, and this provoked four more states (including Virginia) into seceding.

Mississippi was first settled in 1699 and joined the Union in 1817. After the Civil War, Mississippi was readmitted to the Union in February of 1870.
