No Jesus did not make a mistake in choosing the twelve disciples. He knew exactly who to chose and what their actions, good or bad would be. Jesus did not and does not make mistakes. He is the Son of the living God.
No God did not pick up the disciples , it was Jesus who chose the disciples.
