SIMMs are pretty much obsolete. DIMMs are the currently popular choice for desktop style computer memory. (Laptops use SO-DIMMs.)

How are simm and dimm a like?

SIMMs and DIMM are both type of main memory modules. One in single-sided (SIMM) and one is double-sided (DIMM).

Name two ways that simm and a dimm are alike name two ways they are different?

Alike- both DRAM, both have pins on both sides of module Different - data path of DIMM is 64 bit, data path of SIMM is 32 bit, and With a SIMM, each pin pair is tied together into a single contact while a DIMM can have memory chips on one side or both sides of the module.

What do SIMM and DIMM banks look like?

The banks themselves don't really look all that different. It's usually better to research the make and model of the motherboard to figure out what it has. The modules themselves are easy. DIMMs have their RAM chips on both sides, whereas SIMMs are only blessed with RAM chips on one side. In reality pretty much every motherboard made within well over a decade only has a DIMM memory bank, so it may not be worth your time or energy trying to find out if the motherboard you have has SIMM or DIMM banks. It's almost guaranteed to have DIMM. DIMM: Dual Inline Memory Module SIMM: Single Inline Memory Module

Has pins on opposite sides of the circuit board that connect together to form one set of contacts?

SIMM (single inline memory module )

What is SIMM in computer?

SIMM (Single Inline Memory Module), is a form of RAM (Random Access Memory) It is a ram chip with memory chips on one side. A DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) is like a SIMM, but has memory chips on both sides.

What are the different types of memory modules?

The processor uses temporary storage, called primary storage or memory, to temporarly hold both data and instructions while it is processingthem. Pimary storage is much faster to access than permanent storage. however, when data and instructions are not being used, they must be kept in permanent storage sometimes called secondary storage, such as a hard drive, CD or floppy .

A DIMM in any one of the DIMM slots is referred to as?

Bank

Is DIMM the same as SDRAM?

DIMM happens to be the size of the slot where you apply the SDRAM, DIMM is typically a 168-pin slot which is probably what you have if you have a most up to date or current motherboard. In older motherboards, you find SIMM slots which have only 72 pins. Basically, you are able to use much more memory today than like before. if you are using windows operating system you can go to the help section and enter the word DIMM in the search. This should get you started on a more clearer idea and as well lead you towards more information to your question.

What does the term DIMM means?

Short for dual in-line memory module, a small circuit board that holds memory chips. A single in-line memory module (SIMM) has a 32-bit path to the memory chips whereas a DIMM has 64-bit path. Because the Pentium processor requires a 64-bit path to memory, you need to install SIMMs two at a time. With DIMMs, you can install memory one DIMM at a time.

Where can one purchase a 200 pin SO-DIMM?

One can purchase a 200 pin SO-DIMM at most home electronics stores. Another option would be to purchase it through online retailers such as Amazon or eBay.

Why might a person choose DDR DIMM memory?

The DDR DIMM is an older type of RAM. DDR DIMM is not compatible with other kinds of RAM which is why a person that has an older PC has to choose a DDR DIMM memory as a replacement for one that broke.
