It will depend on which software is being used. With iPhoto it is not possible to change the background color of a Slideshow as that is determined by the theme being used. With other software, such as FotoMagico, there is an option to change the background color in the Settings section.

Reformatting
Right click on a blank area of the slide and choose Background. You can then choose the colours you want to use for the background.
If you have Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, you can go to the animations tab and click on where you want an animation to go and you can click custom animation. you can chose from many different animations. You can also right click on the slide and press format background. you can then change the colour of the background. hope this helps!
