When was the law passed that you need to be born in the USA to be president?

According to the United States Constitution, to become president you not only have to be a citizen of the U.S., you have to be a natural-born citizen. A natural-born citizen is someone born on US soil or on foreign soil, but to parents who are US citizens.

Is a child born to a US Armed Forces Member who with their spouse are both US Citizens born at an overseas station say Okinawa considered a US Native Born citizen?

First, there is no category of "native" born citizens. The Constitution refers to "natural" born citizens. Any child born to a US citizen is a natural born citizen no matter where the birth occurs. *********************************************************************** A child is considered a US citizen if it is born in one of the United States' states. (when it is part of the US). It also is if the child is born on a USA warship or aircraft. An example would be John McCain.

What amendment said you can be born in the US but NOT be a citizen?

The 14th amendment says that if you are born in the US you are a citizen. Beforethis amendment slaves born in the US were not citizens. Slavery was allowed by the original US Constitution but was not part of any amendment. Also, children born in the United States to citizens of other countries would not automatically be US citizens before this amendment was ratified.

When did civil rights become part of the US Constitution?

Civil Rights became a part of the U.S. Constitution in 1868 when the 14th amendment was adopted. The 14th amendment grantees each citizen "equal protection of the laws".

Can a US Citizen run for President if heshe is a registered Citizen of a foreign country?

If you were born here, you are a citizen by right of birth. So, you are eligible to be president. 6 previous US Presidents had foreign born parents. Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) is the only president born of two immigrants, both Irish. Presidents with one immigrant parent are Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809), whose mother was born in England, James Buchanan (1857-1861) and Chester Arthur (1881-1885), both of whom had Irish fathers, and Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) and Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), whose mothers were born respectively in England and Canada. Obama will be the 7th US President with at least one foreign born President, since his father was a Kenyan native. His mother was born in Kansas. On a side note, you do not have to be born in the US to be a "natural born citizen" which is one of the requirements to become president per the constitution. John McCain was born in the foreign nation of Panama. But, since his parents were US Citizens, he automatically became a citizen at birth. He was "naturally born" a US citizen and is thus eligible to hold the office of President. Also, recent arguments that due to Obama's father not being a naturalized citizen he is ineligible to serve are moot, as are even claims that he was born in other countries, i.e. Kenya, as a part of the Constitution states that even if one parent is an alien, as long as the other is a U.S. citizen that has lived for at least 5 years in the U.S.A., then regardless of where that person is born, they are considered a U.S. citizen until alternate citizenship status is obtained.

My daughter was born in the UK her birth cert. issued she's born abroad does that still mean she can be president of the US We are military is it the same if she was born in Bangkok Thailand?

If she is a US citizen at the time of her birth, that is all it takes [to be a U.S. citizen]. If one her parents was a US citizen, she is a US citizen. But although one be a U.S. citizen, the U.S. Constitution requires that one be a "natural born citizen". Those born on foreign soil are constitutionally ineligible to serve as President of the U.S. Military bases overseas, while administered by the U.S., are not part of the United States. Birth on a U.S. military base does not confer U.S. citizenship. The U.S. Constitution (Section 1 of Article II) states these as the only requirements to serve as U.S. President (or Vice President): * "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

How long must you be a resident of the US before you can be president?

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the US Constitution: "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." So, considering the second part of that same clause, minimum requirements is 35 years at 35 years of age provided that person was born on US soil.
