Warm air tends to rise, so all else being equal the second floor may be warmer than the first. This is complicated by forced air circulation, so in any particular house this may not be true, or at least may not be true all the time.

If you have a two-story house with one unit can you just turn the 1st thermostat on the bottom floor since hot air rises?

If you have a single unit with 2 or more zones, why heat the unoccupied zones in order to warm the occupied one or vice versa. If there is a particular reason you ask then turn the second floor stat ``off``and try it.

Why does a bucket gets filled faster by the tap on the lower floor than that on the top floor?

The reason is quite simple. Your water pipes are under your house, condo, apartment, etc. the higher up you use the water the lower the water pressure, because it uses more pressure to move the water up to the 2nd floor than to the first thus weakening the stream of water.

How does an airconditioner work?

It attracts the undesired heat inside of the house with the cooler freon then removes it outside where its more desired. the definition states that its the attracting of heat molecules from one place and rejecting them to another where its less objectionable. Conversely it means that anytime u remove heat from any object, that object becomes colder. So then, airconditioners remove heat from the(existing) air in the house and the (existing) air bcomes cooler, and the attracted heat molcules are introduced to the cooler air outside the house. This process is repeated until enough heat is removed to equal the setting on your thermostat, then it shuts off until more heat enters the house and it starts up again.

Is the attic the first floor or 2nd floor?

If you are talking about a house, the attic would be on the third floor as you have a ground floor (first floor), then a second floor (upstairs) and then a third floor (the attic), However if it was a bungalow, it would be on the second floor because bungalow's don't have an upstairs.
