Bar codes were originally used in space when they had to scan it on their way out of the space craft so the ISS would know exactly when they left and when they came back in and exactly how long they have been out.
No power on earth has claimed dominion of space, and as such, space is lawless. Nothing is technically illegal, nor is it legal. There would still be consequences if you were gay married in space and came back to earth.

All returning space craft use some sort heat shield to protect them from the heat generated by the friction from passing through the atmosphere. The shield will get red hot, but the rest of the vehicle will be OK.

Radio waves are often referred to as space waves because they have the ability to move through space. Radio waves are a type of electromagnetic radiation.
The reason they sent animals up before the people is that they wanted to make sure that the space craft was safe. If the air leaked out. If it stayed together in space. If the dog or monkey came back safely, then the space-craft was ready to travel in.
All of the Mecury space capsules were designed to land in the ocean, where they would be recovered by Navy helicopters.

Compared to the Space Shuttle Orbiter, relatively very little of the Apollo spacecraft returned to earth. Typically, just the Command Module came back to earth. With Apollo 13, the Lunar Module came back to earth, as it was used as a lifeboat for the three astronauts, until just before reentry. Typically, the Lunar Module was left to crash into the moon after it was used. The only other Lunar Module that made it back to earth (to burn up in the atmosphere) was the one used on Apollo 9, which was a Low-Earth Orbit mission.
