When King Cnut landed in the summer of 1015 he controlled Wessex and north of the Thames. In 1016 he besieged London and soon after dividing the country with Edmund he got all of the country north of the Thames and Edmund is given Wessex. When Edmund dies in 1016 this leaves Cnut King. He divides the country into four districts: Mescia, Northumbia, East Anglia, and Wessax and assigns the districts to people he can trust. He keeps Wessex for himself. In 1018 the laws of King Edgar are drafted into the legal code of England. Cnut dies on November 12, 1035 at the age of 40.
