The ancient era of history is generally held to end in 500 CE. At this stage the Greek world was under control of the Goths etc in the west, and was called the Byzantine Empire (which was Greek) in the east.
The last period in ancient Greek history is the Hellenistic period, which followed the classical period. It began after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE and lasted until the Roman conquest of Greece in 146 BCE. The earlier periods, such as the Minoan and Archaic periods, occurred before the classical period, which was marked by significant developments in arts, philosophy, and politics.

The last significant event in Greek history following 323 B.C. was the Battle of Corinth in 146 B.C., which marked the end of the Greek city-states' independence and led to Greece becoming a part of the Roman Republic. This battle was a culmination of the Roman conquest of Greece, which began after the death of Alexander the Great and the subsequent power struggles among his successors. The defeat of the Greek forces solidified Roman control over the region.
