The Stephensons originally came from Scotland, from what I've seen. However, a good number of them moved to Ireland. My family originated in Scotland but in the late 1700s, move to Ireland. From there, the family split up after a generation or two - some stayed in Ireland, some moved back to Scotland, and a good number moved to the United States - settling in the Carolinas.
