William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, U.S. Grant and Dwight Eisenhower were elected primarily, if not entirely, because they were military heroes. George Washington , Andrew Jackson were war heroes with worthy records in other areas. James Monroe, George H. W. Bush , Theodore Roosevelt and John Kennedy performed heroically in military combat before they entered government service. Franklin Pierce, Rutherford Hayes, James Garfield and Benjamin Harrison were war-time appointments as generals which fact undoubtedly helped them in their political campaigns.
So far, all the professional generals who became president won major victories and became national heroes before they were elected President. Taylor won the Mexican War, Grant won the Civil War and Eisenhower won WW II in Europe.
The 4 us presidents who were mexican american war generals for the u.s. were:Zachary TaylorMillard FillmoreFranklin PierceUlysses S. Grant
I think the only one was General George Washington, but there may be more
Both were war heroes.
President Thomas Jeffresson and Georg Washington and other generals and presidents attended
Both were US presidents. Both were war heroes. Both had wealthy parents.
Presidents do not actually command troops in war time. They appoint the generals who do the commanding. They may suggest strategy and put new generals in command if the war is not going the way the president wants.
Ulysses S. Grant. There were other Presidents who served in the Civil War but I don't think any were generals.
