Calcium occurs most commonly in sedimentary rocks, but is also found in igneous (relating to fire) and metamorphic rocks, cheifly in silicate minerals.

Calcium can be obtained by electrolyzing a mixture of lime and Mercury, as was first discovered by Sir Humphry Davy in England, during 1808.

Calcium is refined by a process that makes it possible to obtain high-purity calcium with low aluminum content.
It is known that the production of calcium is done especially by aluminothermic treatment of lime at about 2552° F. in the solid phase, by the following reaction:
5CaO+2Al→Al2 O3, 2CaO+3Ca

The reaction is carried out in an oven in a vacuum. The calcium is separated in the vapor state and condensed to a solid.

Is there calcium in cement?

Yes,Sorel in 1867 announced the discovery of an excellent cement formed from the combination of magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride solution. This cement type is known by many different names, such as Sorel, magnesite and magnesium oxychloride cement. This cement has many superior properties to Portland cement. However, there are two other known magnesia cements. The first is magnesium oxysulfate (MOS), which is the sulfate analogue of magnesium oxychloride and is formed by the combination of magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate solution. The second is magnesium phosphate cement (MAP), formed by the reaction between magnesium oxide and a soluble phosphate, such as ammonium phosphate monobasic (NH4H2PO4)
