What did George Washington say about shay's rebellion?

I have one reaction reported from Washington concerning the rebellion and it was after it was crushed. "Good God" is what is reported from Washington. He felt that only a Tory or Briton could have predicted such disorders. Since he wasn't president until 1789 that is the only thing I have that shows how he felt. Jefferson, on the other hand, wrote to Adams "This commotion will terminate in additonal strength to the government." He was right. It was one of the events that will push Congress towards a constitutional convention.

What does the whiskey rebellion the show the strength of the Federal Government under the Constutution?

The government under the revised Articles of Confederation (Constitution) was able to put down the Whiskey Rebellion. Under the Articles of Confederation the government was unable to put down Shays' Rebellion, and had to rely on state militia, seeming very weak to the country.

How has the whiskey rebellion effected history?

The Whiskey Rebellion started in 1791 and occured because farmers were upset by the additional taxes put on Whiskey during George Washington's presidency. Because of the powers of the new United States Constitution (which were much stronger than those of the previous Afticles of Confederation) the rebellion was crushed. This showed the strength of the new strong federal government. It caused the Washington administration to be viewed as a success. It upped the public approval for the new government. It demonstrated the ablility and willingness of the government to quell violent uprsings in violent ways.

What specific weakness of the articles of confederation caused shays’ rebellion?

Shay's Rebellion showed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. When the central government couldn't put down the rebellion, the first stirrings of federalism began to gather strength.
