They are both very similar. In fact, as you're probably aware by now, some sections of the Anglican Church are coming into the Catholic Church to become an Anglo-Catholic sector of the Catholic Church. Why don't you read some of the writings of the early apostles, disciples, and martyrs to see what the early Christians believed and find out for yourself. Some good ones include the writings of St. Augustine, St. Ignatius, St. Justin Martyr, St. Iranaeus, St. Cyril of Jerusalem, St. Ambrose, and more.

Anglican Catholic Answer!

To be a Catholic one has to be baptised and to receive baptism , as an adult, we are expected to hold the faith as revealed to the Apostles and Holy people of God. This is the faith that is written and recorded in to scripture and completed, explained and interpreted by the Holy fathers in Council. The Seven Ecumenical Councils.

Interestingly, Anglican in its original understanding referred to holding the above beliefs. Anglicanism is simply Catholicism distillated from Church sources after two thousand years of study and teaching. You cannot be an Anglican if you are not a Catholic!

Is Anglican Christianity or Catholic?

No WAY!!! The Anglican church is probably one of the closER Protestant "branch religions" to the Catholic Church, but it is still a Protestant religion. The Anglican church is missing some of the MOST key factors that "make" the Catholic Church Catholic. So "no, they are most definitely NOT the same."

Is Anglican a religion?

It depends on who you ask. The Anglican Church is considered by Roman Catholics to be a Protestant church, since it is not in union with Rome. However, the Anglican Communion (this includes all the Anglican churches, plus various affiliated churches such as Episcopalian churches) considers itself to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. (By the way, "Catholic" literally means "Universal". The Roman Catholic Church considers itself the only Catholic Church, but other Churches may dispute this, or even that the so-called "Roman Catholic" Church is in fact "Catholic" at all.)

Can a Protestant have an Anglican wedding ceremony in Cyprus?

Just to point out, the Anglican church is a protestant church, indeed it is the main protestant church. King Henry VIII (8th) split from the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century due to not being allowed to divorce one woman and marry another; the Anglican (Church of England) church has been considered theprotestant religion ever since. The monarch of the UK is the head of the Anglican religion much like the Roman Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic church. The current head is Queen Elizabeth II. Anglican miniters (priests) do consider the Anglican church to still be Catholic in the latin sense of that word, which means "universal" Anglican churches only allow someone to marry in their churches if at least one of the parties getting married is a member of the Anglican faith (from any country, not just the UK)

Is Protestant a Catholic?

At first glance many people think a Catholic Protestant is a contadiction in terms. However there are Protestant (or Reformed) people and churches that identify as Catholic but not Roman Catholic. Catholic means 'universal' or 'general', so some Protestants regard themselves as catholic in the sense of being part of the universal church of Christ. There is also an Anglican church not centred on the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Anglican Communion called the Anglican Catholic Church. The Anglican Communion itself points out that a Catholic that follows the Bishop of Rome (usually called the Pope) is a Roman Catholic where-as they identify as Anglican Catholic. To quote the Anglican Church of Ireland website:"The Church of Ireland is Catholic because it is in possession of a continuous tradition of faith and practice, based on Scripture and early traditions, enshrined in the Catholic Creeds, together with the sacraments and apostolic ministry.".Catholic AnswerA Catholic Protestant remains an oxymoron as there is only one Catholic Church - by Our Blessed Lord's own definition - and a protestant, by definition, is someone whose religion is protesting the Catholic Church. Redefining terms and saying that all truth is relative helps no one, and doesn't make any sense anyway.

Can an Anglican take communion in a Maronite church?

.Catholic AnswerOf course not, an Anglican is a protestant, a Catholic Church is Catholic. An Anglican may receive Holy Communion in a Catholic Church after completing RCIA classes and being brought into the Church at the Easter Vigil, but if they wish to remain an Anglican, they are, by that very fact, proclaiming that they are not in communion with the Catholic Church, so to receive Holy Communion in a Catholic Church would be a lie and dangerous to their spiritual well-being. Aside from all that, Catholics to not "take" Holy Communion, they "receive" Holy Communion.

Who was the Anglican church founded by?

I believe the Anglican church was founded after a discussion: A king wanted to divorce his wife and marry his 'mistress'. Only one person wanted to do that and that was the Archbisshop of Canterbury (Cranmer I believe). They founded the Act Of Supremacy which says that the king is the supreme head in church, right under God, as long as the commandments of God allow it. It did not become the state religion then, but after the Glorious Revolution. Watch out: officially the Anglican Church is Catholic but they see themselves more as a combination between Catholic and Protestant. I hope this is enough for you :-) Jan Sauvillers jansauvillers@hotmail.com
