The Korean War was started on June 25, 1950. It ended on June 27,1953. This year (2010) is the 60th anniversary of this sad, sad war.Technically this war is still active. The United States and North Korea did not sign a peace treaty between the two nations. They simply agreed to an Armistices which is essentially a ceasefire. At any given moment this war could possibly resume if one side so chose to resume it.The Korean war never really ended it is just at a stand still to this day the USA is still there and ant leave cause north Korea has said once we are gone they are going to take over the southJune 1950The North and South Koreans began fighting along their border in 1949. Other countries joined in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea.June 1950 and ended with an Armistice in July 1953It started when North Korean People's soldiers crossed the 38th parallel between North and South Korea on June 25, 1950. The war lasted until July 27, 1953 with both sides signing a peace agreement.
The country which fought alongside the North Koreans in the Korean War was China. The Chinese entered the war on June 27, 1950.
North Korea attempted to reunite Korea in June 1950 under a single communist government.
North Korea was communist. Red China entered the later in 1950, becoming an ally to North Korea.
The background of the Korean War is complex. Originally, Korea was controlled by Japan during the war. After World War II, the United States and Soviet Union divided Korea into two districts (much like how Germany was divided in Europe), a communist north, and a more pro-western south. These two districts became their own countries. With tensions between the US and USSR rising, both sides wanted as many allies as they could get, in as many places as they could get them. On June 25, 1950 the Korean People's Army stormed across the 38th parallel (the international dividing line between the two countries) in an effort to re-unify Korea. Fighting continued until July 27, 1953 when a cease-fire was signed. Because no peace treaty was ever signed, the war is technically still in progress to this day.
