Although at least half the state is forest land and plateaus, much of Arizona is covered by the desert topography for which it is best known. Arizona receives far too little rainfall (an average of 12.7 inches annually) to support a rain forest. And being closer to the equator than either pole, the climate cannot sustain an ice cover.
