A:Matthew's Gospel tells how Jesus spent his early childhood in Egypt, where the young family had fled for fear of King Herod, who sought to have Jesus killed. After Herod died, Mary and Joseph began to return with Jesus to their home in Bethlehem but, being warned in a dream, turned aside and travelled to Nazareth in Galilee, instead.

Luke's Gospel tells how Jesus spent his early childhood in Nazareth, travelling to Jerusalem each year for the Passover. When he was twelve years old, Mary and Joseph thought he was lost, but found him in the Temple, discussing the scriptures with the scribes.
