Yes. It was built for Mumtaz Mahal when she passed away, but they're both buried there. The Taj Mahal is a tomb.
Because of its history, which is that Mughal Emperor Shan Jahan made this beautiful mahal (temple or palace, but in this it means tomb) for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. In this Mahal there are the tombs of the lovers along with holy inscriptions. Even though the riches and jewels in the Mahal were stolen by the conquers, the beauty and the history still remains in India and still is one of the seven new wonders of the world.
These tombs were called pyramids
The bodies were placed in sarcophagi (plural sarcophagis), which were left in tombs. They are just called tombs.
