Probably the most well known trail heading west would have to be the Oregon Trail. Other, lesser known trails include the Pony Express Route, Butterfield Stagecoach Route, and the San Diego - Houston Stagecoach Route. I'm sure they're more but those are the ones I could remember off the top of my head!
