The Illini Indian tribes were in southern Illinois. The French settlers named the area after the tribe that welcomed them.
The Wampanoag Tribe is the tribe of Chief Massasoit, Samoset, and Squanto. They made contact with the Pilgrims and aided them. Without the help of the Wampanoag tribe it is possible that the colonists of Plymouth Colony would not have survived the first winter.
The year was 1621. The Plymouth colonists had their autumn feast, which was the first Thanksgiving supper. The Indians in question were from the Wanpanoag tribe. This harvest feast was a celebration of the cooperation between the pilgrims and the tribe.

The Central American Indian tribe, the Aztecs welcomed Hernán Cortés in 1519 thinking he was the return of their God, Quetzalcoatl.
The native chief who gave land for Georgia's first settlement was Tomochichi, leader of the Yamacraw tribe. He had a close relationship with James Oglethorpe, the founder of the colony of Georgia, and assisted in establishing the town of Savannah in 1733.
