Electromagnetic (EM) radiation includes all forms of radio waves from low frequency, AM radio, FM radio, TV frequencies, short wave frequencies, cell phone frequency/radiation, radar and microwave radiation and higher. These are all generated by some sort of antenna and can be detected and measured by the antenna. EM radiation exists naturally from various sources and mankind has known about it since the late 1800's when we first started learning to produce it and use it for communication.
In the 20th century we learned that at very high frequencies (also called very short wave lengths, or microwaves) at high enough power levels it can be used to heat things up and we have been using it for heating foods and cooking.
EM radiation used for communications is considered by most scientific and medical authorities to be safe and useful. However radiation from microwaves are known to be harmful and microwave devices are required to provide a locking door (as well as shielding on the doors' window) to prevent the device from operating with the door open.
Their is controversy concerning the radiation from the high frequency used by cell phones. The radiating antenna is in very close proximity to the ear and the brain. Once side claims it is hazardous with some proof and the other side insisting their is insufficient proof of anything. There is also statistical research alluding to the fact that the frequency of cancer cases corresponds to the increased presence of communications radiation.
Gamma radiation
Visible light is a very small part of the EM spectrum and it is intellectual laziness to refer to all EM radiation as light.
The shortest wave is a Gamma wave
By radiation, mostly infra red, visible, and ultra violet EM radiation
Depends on what TYPE of EM radiation. Also how much. If the room is emitting infra-red radiation, that only means the room has a temperature. If visible light, that only means you are not in the dark. If low frequency radio waves, most likely nothing will happen. Microwaves, ultra-violet light, and EM radiation of higher frequency can cause burns, damage to cells, and even death. But, in all cases (even gamma rays), it matters far more how MUCH of the radiation is being irradiated on you.
infrared radiation ;)<3
Gamma radiation
Heat radiation is mainly associated with infrared radiation.
