No renewable energy power plant, or farm emits greenhouse gas. (Solar, hydro, wind, tidal, geothermal, biofuel or biomass).

Nuclear power stations, though not renewable, do not emit any greenhouse gases.

Renewable sources of energy, like solar, wind, hydro, wave, tidal, geothermal and biofuel all contribute no greenhouse gases to the greenhouse effect after they are up and running.

(Biofuel contributes carbon dioxide when burnt, but it is CO2 that has recently been captured from the atmosphere, so it is part of the normal carbon cycle. It is not the same as burning fossil fuels which release extra carbon that has been hidden away for millions of years. This extra carbon disrupts the natural carbon cycle and causes the enhanced greenhouse effect that is causing global warming.)

If fossil fuel generated electricity is used in the manufacture and establishment of the renewable energy power plants, then they have all contributed some greenhouse gases. These will be balanced out by the green electricity they produce, and after a while the balance will be even and they will begin generating clean, greenhouse-gas free energy.

The obvious candidate is the burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) to make electricity. However the construction of dams for hydroelectric power can lead to the decomposition of hundreds of acres of vegetation under the water which produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Even the burning of biofuels such as wood releases carbon dioxide at a rate higher than it is stored by the growing vegetation.

Nuclear.

Good News: A Fusion Reactor will be operational in 2016; on the other hand it will not be commercially available until 2045. {Song: "Take Care Brother, Beware!"}.

Production of greenhouse gasses?

The production of greenhouse gasses is harmful to the environment, causing an enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is causing global warming. The gases emitted include methane and carbon dioxide.

Does using unleaded petrol reduce the greenhouse effect?

Yes because unleaded produces less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases than leaded petrol. it leads to a reduction in greenhouse gases and acid rain.
