There are a lot of film formats created for showing video. 35mm or 70mm denotes the projection gauge or width of the release print film. A number of film formats produce release prints of the width 35mm and 70mm. The major difference in film formats is the aspect ratio of the rendered picture. The aspect ratio of the video shown in television is usually 4:3 while that shown in a movie theatre is 16:9. The quality of the picture seems to be good in the latter aspect ratio. Every film house operates its business using a different compliment of equipment. You may be able to find an IMAX theatre with a separate and different 70MM projector. (IMAX film requires an IMAX 70MM projector.) As you can read, below, "...Conventional 70 mm systems were not steady enough for the 586× magnification."
