Well, originally, New Brunswick wanted to join with Nova Scotia and PEI in a Maritime Union, but when John A. McDonald and George Brown got themselves in invited to the meetings, they persuaded Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to join Confederation. PEI did NOT join at this time because they felt no need.
The b.c. gold rush was when the people in b.c. (early 1860's) struck gold. they soon became the 'gold colony' and sold their gold to people. this had a good impact on the fur trade. the gold business ended in the middle of the 1860's. this caused a great depression for the people in b.c. so the confederation let them join in the confederation. they also built a railway from b.c. to the east of Canada. then July 20th b.c. became Canada's 6th province.
They reoresented their own colonies which were the Maritime colonies, and the Province of Canada, before 1867. After that beautiful year many other fathers joined the confederation. They also represent the country of Canada. And if you have a problem with that. I got 2 words for ya. SUCK IT. ☺

Canada East and Canada West were merely geographical designations, not political entities. The pre-Confederation Province of Canada was the political entity that joined Confederation.
