U-joints come in many sizes and styles and are very common. 400 transmissions are getting old I would start looking in older out of the way salvage yards for a front spline yoke out of a 400

if the vehicle is all wheel drive i would not suggest taking the front drive shaft out and leave it out and drive with out it due to the transfer case is designed to have resistance and with out the driveshaft you would have no resistance and could cause very expensive and major damage. if you are looking to replace the drive shaft there are are 8 bolts total the should be an 8mm size bolt for the socket or wrench your using could also be 10mm. make sure to mark the drive shaft so you can put it back in the same way it came out and that is really important because the drive shaft is balance for the certain way it goes into the vehicle and if its not installed the right way then at 40mph it will shake really bad.

This shaft is approx $1000.00 from dealer. Apparently instead of rebuilding, a straight shaft is offerd for a fraction of the cost. however I was told this may stress the drie train (trans/differintial?).or cause vibration posibly from engin harmonics? Check with Rockauto.com for shaft and have picture emailed. personally. Id rather spend $250.00 for a straight one and take my chances. I also need to ask myself why do they (CARDONE) make the stright shaft if it dozent work. Who do I ask if it does work> The shaft this guys mentions is a front shaft, not the 2 piece shaft that is required. They do not make a straight shaft. Junkyard or new is the only way to get what you need. For a 4dr 4x2 automatic.

NO. The center shaft that is inside of the 4-wheel drive transmissions are longer then the 2-wheel drive transmissions to allow the shaft to fit into the transfur case. The only way that it will work is to remove the shaft from the 4x4 trans. and install it in the 2-wheel drive trans. And yes it will fit right in it. But that requires taking both transmissions compleatly apart to do that switch.
