Best Answer

These are simply the names of the TYPES of agencies who enforce the laws of your state.

Municipal POLICE officers jurisdiction is usually limited to within the city limits of their municipality.

SHERIFF's deputies jurisdiction extends over their entire county and all municipalities within that county.

STATE troopers/Highway Patrol are empowered to enforce the law anywhere within their state.

In my state, state troppers are charged with "enforcing federal and state laws relating to traffic, investigating accidents, and criminal interdiction on roads and highways."
