Samoans are Polynesians. The Samoan Motto is: "Fa'avae i le Atua Samoa" (Samoa is founded on God). In the heart of the Samoa culture there lie the respect (fa'aaloalo) and obligation for togetherness and family. Samoa culture centres around large groups of families, not just the immediate family, but the extended family as well. The traditional chief of a Samoa society is a Matai, who holds a high social rank, and has the responsibility to take care of the civic, political, family matters and other needs of the Samoa society.
