Melantho is a servant in the palace; Melanthius is her brother who supports the suitors vying for Penelope's hand. Nestor is the king of Pylos that fought with Odysseus in the war; Menelaus is the king of Sparta that led the Greeks in the war. Agememon is Menelaus's brother and former king of Mycenae. Helen is Menelaus's beautiful wife whose abduction sparked the Trojan war.Alcinous and Arete are the King and Queen of the Phaeacians who offer their hospitality to Odysseus; Nausicaa is their daughter.Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle, assists Odysseus and Telemachus. Polyphemus is one of the Cyclops that Odysseus blinds while trying to escape after Polyphemus captures Odysseus. Poseidon is Polyphemus's father and the god of the sea; he is Odysseus's divine antagonist in revenge for blinding Polyphemus. Zeus is the king of gods and men and the father of Athena. Calypso is a nymph that falls in love with Odysseus and keeps him captive for seven years. Tiresias is a prophet in the Underworld that shows Odysseus how to get back to Ithaca.
