Who are the companies that are polluting the Waikato River?

- Most pollution in the Waikato River is chemical fertilizer runoff from farms along its banks.
- Arsenic is a dangerous pollutant in the river, and most of this comes from the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station.
- Several towns pump barely-treated sewage into the river. (Hamilton's sewage treatment plant has been improved so it is no longer one of the culprits.)
- Several unlined landfills allow pollution to leach into the river, including one at Horotiu, that emits toxic levels of dieldrin, a persistent organic pollutant.
