In one sense, he was inspired by many of the books he had read, because that is where he got his plots from. We have a very romantic idea about poets being "inspired" to wax poetic by beautiful women or sunsets or things like that, but we have no reason to believe that Shakespeare was inspired in this way. Even his sonnets are more intellectual than passionate.
12 famous people were inspired though Shakespeare's hard work and his devotion to writing. If this answer seems too pat to you, you are right to suspect it, because different people have different ideas about who is famous, and people who have been inspired by Shakespeare rarely come out and say, "Oh, by the way, I was inspired by Shakespeare", so you wouldn't know if they were or not unless there is a record of someone specifically asking them. Shakespeare's work is so deeply imbedded in our language and culture that someone could be inspired by him without even knowing it. The correct answer is "Who knows?"
Impossible to say, since to some people one quotation will be very familiar whereas to others it will not, and also because a speech like Hamlet's "To be or not to be" soliloquy may be considered to be one long quotation or a stream of shorter ones. Is "To be or not to be" a famous quotation, "that is the question" another, and "To be or not to be, that is the question" yet another?
Bartlett's "Familiar Quotations", 13th edition, devotes over 85 pages to quotations from Shakespeare, with about 30 quotations to the page, suggesting a whopping 2500 "familiar quotations".

It meant money and fame. If the crown liked you and approved of your plays or art that would mean that others in the nobility would come to see the plays and help pay for them. It was very important that the crown approved of you because without it an artist or writer never had a chance.

Tiresias is able to 'see' the truth better than anyone, which is intended to be ironic given that he is blind. The Oedipus plays were written by Sophocles.

Yes, certainly. Shakespeare's company was sponsored by the king, and there are records of a number of his plays being performed at court.
Just about everybody except the Puritans, who objected to the theatre and, when they came to power in England, had it banned.

Because they are darn good plays, that's why. They are extremely entertaining, even if what you really want to see are swordfights and people having their hands cut off.

Great question! Less-than-famous histories include Henry VIII and King John (both of which were, strangely, popular in the 1800's) Less-than-famous tragedies include Coriolanus and Timon of Athens. Less-than-famous comedies include Pericles (probably the bottom of the barrel nowadays), Troilus and Cressida, and the newly-accepted Two Noble Kinsmen. You don't see All's Well That Ends Well or The Two Gentlemen of Verona often nowadays either.
