Did anyone famous see Shakespeare's plays?

In one sense, he was inspired by many of the books he had read, because that is where he got his plots from. We have a very romantic idea about poets being "inspired" to wax poetic by beautiful women or sunsets or things like that, but we have no reason to believe that Shakespeare was inspired in this way. Even his sonnets are more intellectual than passionate.

If this answer seems too pat to you, you are right to suspect it, because different people have different ideas about who is famous, and people who have been inspired by Shakespeare rarely come out and say, "Oh, by the way, I was inspired by Shakespeare", so you wouldn't know if they were or not unless there is a record of someone specifically asking them. Shakespeare's work is so deeply imbedded in our language and culture that someone could be inspired by him without even knowing it. The correct answer is "Who knows?"
