Mummification is the preservation of the soft tissue of a body by any means, natural or artificial. Embalming is the deliberate preservation of a body for any period of time. This includes what we commonly term "the process of mummification" in Ancient Egypt

Mummification was likely not invented so much as discovered. Early Egyptian burial simply involved leaving a body out in the Sahara, which provided sufficiently dry conditions for natural preservation, provided it was protected from scavengers. Over time, this process was refined and made more elaborate, not by any one person but by a slow process of cultural and religious development.

well, people in ancient Egypt took the afterlife very seriously, this meant going through the mummification process which took about 70 days & weighing the heart & if the heart weighed more then the feather a crocodile would eat it & you wouldn't be able to make it to the afterlife because of your sins.
Mummification was done in ancient Egypt since +7000 years , it is not done any more . Most of our people in Egypt are religious (Muslims and cristians) and our religion prohibit mummification ...and this art is not teached in public. however the technique is well known..
