there were 5 different beaches which were Omaha beach, Utah beach which were attacked by 1st division American Army division, The 2nd division British Army division attacked Gold beach, Juno beach, and Sword beach. But they're most known as Normandy.

They landed on Normandy beach.. and were pressing inwards into Europe to take down the Nazi regime
They were held up because most of their tanks sank. They beach was better defended than most and it was almost impossible to advance to the sea wall.
