Francis Cabot Lowell brought the advances in English power looms to America in 1814. Although he was unable to buy the designs while visiting England, he was able to memorize them and bring them back that way. His looms continued to improve and textile making in the US was off and running.

He is often referred to as the "Father of the American Industrial Revolution" for his contribution to the development of the textile industry in the country. He brought the knowledge and expertise of the British textile industry to America, establishing the first successful cotton-spinning mill in the US in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1790.

Samuel Slater is often credited with bringing the industrial revolution to the US by bringing British textile machinery knowledge to America. With the construction of the first American cotton-spinning mill in 1790, Slater helped establish the foundation for the industrialization of the American textile industry.
