Throughout the chapel there are fresco-ed panels by renaissance artists including Michelangelo (who also did the ceiling) Perugion, Botticelli, Pinturicchio ,Ghirlandaio, etc.. The barrel vault was originally painted brilliant-blue and dotted with gold stars to the design of Piermatteo Lauro de' Manfredi da Amelia. Raphael designed the tapestries for the chapel.
