King William I would have got his barons to build motte and bailey castles all around England. He built the castles because there were so many rebellions. All the peasents didn't like that King William had killed their former King to gain the throne. If the peasents triedd to do anything out of line, they would get killed by the many soldiers

Motte and Bailey castles were built in the 11th century just after King William I (Willilam the conqueror) first took over Britain in 1066. Motte and Bailey castles were made out of wood. They were mainley built because they were cheap and light so they were easy to build. They were later replaced by Stone keep castles (Stone castles) because Stone castles were stronger, wouldn't rot within a few years, wouldn't burn etc...

They built keeps on hills like motte and Bailey castles but keeps were more different they were stronger and made of stone unlike motte and bailey castles, motte and Bailey castles were mostly made out of wood. hope this information helps !
