After Jesus died on the cross, a man named Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for Jesus' body and it was given to him. Joseph then had the body buried in his tomb. But three days later he rose and He is alive.

In the movie "Jesus of Nazareth," the character of Pontius Pilate was played by British actor Rod Steiger. Steiger's portrayal of the Roman governor received critical acclaim for its complexity and depth.

If you read John 19:10 this will help you to see that Jesus knew full well that Pilate had the authority to release him or put him to death. Ultimately Jesus was condemned and executed at the hand or order of Pilate.
The wife of Pontius Pilate came to him and told him she had had a dream about Jesus the previous night, and that he was an innocent man. Pilate disregarded her.
