Peter the Hermit
Peter the Hermit, c.1050 to 1115, French religious leader. In 1095 he was a very successful preacher of the First Crusade, and he led one of its groups.

Peter left Amiens in northern France in 1096, gathering more and more followers on his way through Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, and into Asia Minor where the majority were massacred or enslaved.
One thing that led the Crusaders to fail was their army, and Peter the Hermit. Since Peter the Hermit had no experience with his army, he had failed and he did not succeed. As more people joined his army, more food became scarce. Soon after, many people died when fighting and some were even left as prisoners.

Peter the Hermit was a preacher advocating the First Crusade. He also led a section of the People Crusade. See the link for more details
The People's Crusade was led by Peter the Hermit. However, the first official crusade was launched by Pope Urban the II, and it was the only crusade that succeeded in recapturing Jerusalem.
