Grace Hopper (1906-1992) was an American naval officer and computer scientist. Hopper contributed to the early development of digital computers, especially with the invention of her compiler, which translates English instructions to a language understandable by the computer.
Hopper coined the term debugging, which today is used to refer to the removal of glitches and impediments to the computer. At the time, its inspiration was a moth removed from a computer, causing faults.
