The Greek cities in Ionia, which is present day Turkey, were conquered in the 6th century BC and later fell into Athenian domination until it was conquered by the Persians again in the 4th century BC. It became part of the Roman empire later in the 2nd century BC.
At the time, Egypt was part of the Persian Empire, but Alexander conquered it separately before turning toward Persia Major. For one thing, Egypt was revolting against Persia and welcomed Alexander as a liberator. Plus, Alexander used the wealth of Egypt to finance the campaign against Persia.
No one conquered Persia, the government collapsed, due to war, and went through a period of anarchy, with Smerdis the third as the head. It then fell into the Parthian dynasty.
