Four decades ago, Ted Turner, founder of Turner Broadcasing and his station, WTBS in Atlanta, made a concept of cable news channel. And so, in his promotion, he hired a lot of faces. When newspapers, radio, television and weekly magazines (Time, LIFE, People and Newsweek) dominated the American media, people rely on evening news bulletins (for instance, the local news, the Evening News, World News Tonight and the Nightly News), especially current affairs (like 60 Minutes).
And so, on June the 1st, 1980, the Cable News Network, or as we called it "CNN", was born in a few newsroom shelter. In his inauguration, Turner made a first statement at the first broadcast, and his mansion just converted into a newsroom, where the first anchors were sitting in.
Additional features like lifestyle, business, politics and commentary are added into Turner's idea. Personalities such as Bernard Shaw, Bobbie Battista, Larry King, Elsa Klench, Judy Woodruff (of the NewsHour), and the many faces of CNN has rich history in the most important events, from the first broadcast to the Royal wedding of Charles and Lady Diana, to the fall of the Berlin Wall, to the Gulf War to OJ Simpson's impeachment trail, all away down to the September 11th.
As technology evolves into generations, CNN truly became the "world's news leader", 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Hopefully, a full history is really helpful.
