Not exactly. There was a British unit called the Long Range Desert Group which used jeeps in Egypt and Libya, and it was probably the basis for the fictional exploits of The Rat Patrol in Tunisia. The Rat Patrol was an entertaining and exciting show, but it was not the most historically accurate.
