No one created them, they evolved in nature as did most life forms. They are simply a species of Brine Shrimp.
The real success of "Sea Monkeys" was not their creation but their marketing. They were marketed in 1957 by Harold von Braunhut as Instant Life, the name was changed to "Sea-Monkeys" on May 10, 1962.
The popularity of "Sea-Monkeys" was due in large part to the depiction of their imaginary playful monkey-like behavior and smiling, crown wearing, house living activities.
The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys was created on 1992-09-19.

Sea-monkeys can live in temperatures from 60 degrees to 80 degrees. Thanks!
They are not very similar, but they do have tails just as land monkeys do.
You don't if you like your sea monkeys. Sea monkeys are a variety of shrimp. They need airation/filtration and good quality water to live happilly. It is best you leave the sea monkeys with friends (someone to look after them) if you are travelling. HTH
