The history of Easter dates back to well before the Catholic Church changed the pagan spring festival of Eostre to Easter. One reason we still have bunnies, chicks, and eggs is that to the ancient tribes they celebrated the rebirth of the world around them from the coldness and death of winter.

The timing of Easter is determined by the phases of the moon after the Spring equinox (March 21st). Thus it is movable within a four week period from that time.
