The Georgia state flag was chosen as the state flag of Georgia because it represents both the state's historical connection to the Confederacy and its efforts to move past that history. The flag design has undergone multiple changes over the years in response to criticism and controversy surrounding its symbolism.
Mississipi and Georgia
It's actually unknown. The stars and bars, upon which the Georgia state flag is based, was designed to carry the same meaning as the flag of the United States but have a different appearance. With this assumption we can say that the red bars stand for courage, which the white for purity and the blue canton for loyalty.
The flag was designed at the request of King Kamehameha I.

The current flag of Georgia was adopted on May 8, 2003, and was designed by a group led by State Representative and former Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson. The design features a blue field with a white cross, incorporating the state seal and the thirteen stars representing Georgia as one of the original thirteen colonies. The flag's design was inspired by the historical flags of Georgia, particularly the flags used during the Civil War.

The people of the state of Georgia voted in 2004 to adopt a new flag. The new flag design removed the Confederate battle emblem that had been previously featured on the state flag since 1956.
The flag was created by the Utah state chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The state seal was designed by Harry Edwards and makes up the entirety of the flag.
