The standard companies that make firearms, cars, ships, boats and planes made the same equipment for the military. The only difference was that the product had to meet MILITARY STANDARDS, in the poplular phrases of today, it's cal MIL SPEC (Military Specifications), and the civilian manufacturing company making the product for the military was AWARDED a contract (to build and deliver so many rifles, tanks, etc.). Tanks were normally built by automobile manufacturing plants. Jet fighter bombers and other aircraft were built by the same companies that build civilian passenger jet airliners and private single engine aircraft.
