According to the book Jack The Ripper:Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell, Abberline never gave an opinion as to who he thought JTR might be. Her thought was that possibly adding more theories to a case that was drowning in theories was where Abberline drew the line. For Abberline, on a personal level, he was most likely greatly disappointed that he was never able to detect the Ripper.

Did Inspector Abberline take the blame for Jack The Ripper never being caught?

Although Inspector Abberline was not the only investigator on the Ripper case, he is probably the one most commonly associated with this famous case. In all my Ripper research I have never come across any evidence that Abberline was held responsible for the unsolved case. That being said, I think Abberline felt a sense of frustration and possibly failure at not being able to 'get his man'. At retirement Abberline was one of the most highly decorated detectives in the history of Scotland Yard. He was bright and hard-working and I'm sure he felt a responsiblity to the murdered women to find a small amount of justice for them.

Did any investigator in the 1888 Jack the Ripper murders wonder if the killer was a female?

The notion that Jack the Ripper might not in fact be a man at all, but rather a woman, was one postulated by Inspector Abberline himself at the time of the killings.

Why would the police say that Jack The Ripper had been caught?

Scotland Yard never claimed to have captured Jack The Ripper and in fact were ridculed for their inablity to catch him. It resulted in many conspiracy theories, some involving the royal family, the police force and even Inspector Fredrick Abberline.

Is Jack the Pumpkin King based on Jack the Ripper?

Which detective could not solve the case of Jack The Ripper?

There were several different detectives that worked the Ripper case. As is done in todays murder cases they split the murders between the detectives so everyone gets their share of the work. And remember that at least one of the murders, Katherine Eddows, was in a completely different section of London known as The Mile. This murder was handled by the London Police as opposed to the Metropolitan Police for the other killings. But the detective that is most often associated with Jack The Ripper is Inspector Frederick Abberline. Abberline was a much-commermorated member of the Metropolitan Police and was one of the few who never wrote a book or gave an opinion as to whom he thought the Ripper was. In his memoirs written after his retirement in 1903 he certainly did not go into the case. Maybe more than any of the other detectives that worked these murders, I think the inability to solve the case weighed heavily on Abberline, and most people don't like to talk about what they perceive as a failure. I think it is also telling that with all the rumors and misinformation that surrounded this case, he did not want to add another opinion to add to the confusion.
